Carefully crafted from gorgeous, dyed and stabilized Karelian Birch (also known as Masur Birch), raw brass and lustrous, sparkling "Gilded Raven" resin from The Pensmiths, this sleek, beautiful piece will be turning heads left, right, and center. The generous section has an exceptionally comfortable taper, and the birch wood and resin construction lends a weighty feel that makes for an excellent performer in long form writing. Masur Birch (also known as Karelian Birch) is not a species in of itself, but rather a particular grain figure that occurs in various species of European Birch.  The result is a beautiful marble like figure – a mix between burl and birdseye. The cause of this figure is uncertain.  Some say that it comes from a tree’s reaction to invasion by the larvae of the Agromyzia carbonara beetle, but the general opinion seems to be that it is hereditary, classifying the name of the variant as Betula pendula var. Carelica.  Regardless of the exact origin of the figure, it provides us with stunning and unique looking lumber, especially when dyed! This wood has been professionally stabilized with a hard resin, and the cap is fully sleeved. 


The Pensmiths create absolutely gorgeous blanks, using industry-leading urethane resin from Alumilite as well as hundreds of different dyes, pigments, and mica powders.
